What Seattle-area yards have in common
Hills and slopes
Plenty of lots here tilt toward a view or the street. Fences step down in sections, and decks may need taller posts or more stairs than you'd expect.
Wet ground
Clay soil and long rainy seasons mean water sits around posts. Footings, gravel and good drainage are part of every plan.
Shade and big trees
Firs and maples drop needles and leaves and keep corners damp. We think about airflow, root zones and how easy the surface will be to clean.
Permits vary by location. Seattle projects go through SDCI, while unincorporated areas go through King County and many cities have their own offices. We'll help you figure out which applies to your address.
